CE Benefit for HBA Members
Builder Members & Licensed Contractors,
By now many of you have received several communications that many licensed contractors will have to show evidence of continuing education (CE) credits to renew your license in 2022 and beyond.

The good news for HBA members.
The Home Builders Association of Tennessee is the approved professional association and is authorized to grant our members continuing education credit hours for their current and past participation.

Because you are a member of a Tennessee Home Builders Association, you have already earned Continuing Education credits. HBAT will produce certificates for our members showing you (and your company) have earned the required 8 hours of continuing education for your current and past participation in your local HBA and HBAT.

In order to create a certificate for you and your company, we must abide by the rules set out by the Contractor’s Board and print specific information on the credit hour documentation.

We need you to confirm
·      Company Name (as on file with the Board)
·      Qualifying Agent (Contractor)
·      Your TN Contactors License Number
·      Email address for the qualifying agent
1. We know some of your companies use a dba for your public name, and that is how we know you too. However, we need to know the actual name that is on file with the Contractors Board.
2. For some of you, your son or another person may be listed as the qualifying agent. We need to know whose name to print.
If either of these 2 situations may apply to you, send us an email at news@hbat.org with the following information
·      Company Name (as on file with the Board)
·      Qualifying Agent (Contractor)
·      Your TN Contactors License Number
·      Email address for the qualifying agent
Who needs proof of continuing education?

All companies licensed after January 1, 2009 are required to show proof of continuing education, when they renew their license starting in 2022. There are over 3,300 licensed contractors in Tennessee who will be required to show proof of CE credits. You may also be on the list if you did not timely renew your license after 2009 or reorganized your official business name.
Click on the “Link to the List” button to search for your name. Note: The list is organized by county.
You can also search you license at verify.tn.gov – if your license’s Origin Date is after January 1, 2009, you need to provide proof of CE credits. If you disagree with your origin date, contact the Tennessee Board for Licensed Contractors.
How you will get your “proof of CE credits.
In December, HBAT will create certificates for all our members who are scheduled to renew their licenses January through June 2022. We will send you a copy in advance of your license renewal date. Your local EO will also be provided copies.
We want to get these things correct when we print these the first time. We know you don’t want to have to fuss over getting a correction to your certificate in the week before your license expires.

  • Do you know a licensed contractor who would benefit from being a member of your HBA?

Many of your sub-contractors and business partners are Licensed Contractors. They will need continuing education too. Encourage them to join your local HBA and earn credits throughout the year.

Otherwise, they will have to waste a day in class – which means they will not be on the job producing the work you need from them.
These contactors are members of their local HBA in Tennessee. They are happy because, they will never have to waste a day taking online classes to fulfill their CE requirement. Each year these HBA members earn continuing education by being an active member in their local association.
